Interesting Wedding Facts

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Did you know the kiss that is given by the bride to the groom at the end of the wedding ceremony originates from the earliest times when the couple would actually make love for the first time under the eyes of half the village!

In the rhyme ’something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’, “blue” is symbolic of the blood of royalty, since both the bride and the groom were once considered to be “royal” on their wedding day.

The reason that the engagement ring and wedding band is worn on the fourth finger of the left hand is because the ancient Egyptians thought that the “vein of love’ ran from this finger directly to the heart.

The largest wedding attendance was a Jewish wedding in Jerusalem in 1993 where 30,000 people attended.

The most expensive wedding was the one held in a purpose-built stadium in Dubai for a Shiek’s son. The wedding cost over £22 million.

The longest wedding dress train was found in Germany, it measured over 515 feet.

Tips for the Groom

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

This may seem obvious, but remember your socks, far to many grooms get married without socks and it can sometimes be seen in the photographs.

Your button hole is traditionally worn on the left- which ever side you prefer, ensure that you and your ushers all wear their button holes on the same side.

If you usually have you head shaven don’t do it on the day of your wedding or you will look bald or shiny in the photographs. Have your head shaved at least one week before the wedding to allow time for some to grow back.

Tips for the bride

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

When you are having your hair styled on your wedding day, wear a shirt. Many brides wear t-shirts, and then they have trouble getting it over their new hairdo. If you wear a shirtit can be unbuttoned and will not damage your hairdo.

If your dress  has laces or buttons, ask a friend to come and help you dress. normally a bridesmaid or family member will be there to help the bride to get ready, but it is likely that they may also have false nails on for the occasion. If you have a friend present who isn’t in the bridal party they will be able to help the bride get dressed.

If you have a dress that goes over your head, get a pillow case to putover your head first. This way your dress will slide on more easily without damaging hair, or getting make-up on your dress.

Dress the bride first. Lots of people dress the bride last so everyone is ready to help, but if plans start to run behindit will be the bride who is in a rushto get dressed. If you dress the bride firstshe can get ready at her own pace, feel relaxed and have time to make any adjustmentsto her dress. It is not the brides job to dress bridesmaid or children- make sure you have plently of helpers to do this so that she can enjoy her wedding day.

Wedding Dresses

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Most bridal dresses starting around £600 and running into thousands of pounds, this is a huge expense that will take up alot of your budget.

You can still look fabulous for a fraction of the price by buying a pre-loved wedding dress.

Many charity shops have specialist bridal wear departments where you can purchase new and designer dresses that have been worn once.  You can try the dresses on before buying.

If you’re a little braver, you can venture online, where there are some fantastic bargains to be had in the pre-loved lines.  Take a look at some of the For Sale forums of the popular wedding websites and you’ll see bridal dresses, veils, tiaras and maybe those Jimmy Choo shoes that you know you want for a fraction of the cost. You might even want to have a look on eBay you could find some real bargains to suit your wedding budget.

Drink for your guests

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

To have a free bar, or cash bar?  Of course, it would be fantastic to offer a free bar to all your guests, all day, but with limited funds, it’s not a realistic option for most people.

The ideal in this instance is to use a venue where you can bring your own booze.  You could consider popping across to France and buy 180 bottles of wine and 240 beers, plus Pimms and cassis for around £500.

Guests will be restricted to beer, wine or soft drinks, but no one will really mind.

Another option is to come to an arrangement with the hotel regarding corkage.  If you get married in a hotel, they could charge up to £10 per bottle of wine.  You could arrange a flat fee of £500 for all of the beer and wine opening.  Although it seems like a lot, it meant that you could afford to supply beer and wine for her guests, it would work out to be alot cheaper to pay a flat rate.
