Tips - How to select a photographer for your wedding

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

The first thing to do when organising your wedding is obviously to choose and book the venue.  We recommend that your next task is to find a wedding photographer, by looking online Usually typing in wedding photographer + “your area” eg “Scotland” or “Kent” works well, though added terms such as “traditional” or “reportage”, by doing this it will narrow down your search.

Do you have a favourite style – ones you’ve seen in a magazine, or on a website, show them to your photographer so they know what your happy with.  However, you won’t have their experience so this can only be a guideline for them.  Don’t pin them down to tightly or you’ll destroy all the creativity they have to offer you.  Do your research on current styles and poses that you might think flatter you, and think about who is important to you too, as family tend to only meet up on big occasions.

If you have a large family and you want to make sure that you get certain photographs of the them on your wedding day, why not supply your photographer of a list of people that you would like to be in photographs and he/she will be able to call there names out on the day and get all the photographs that you have requested.

Some photographers are prepared to travel outside their geographical area, but there can be an extra charge for this based on the mileage and if accommodation is needed that might increase the overall price you are expected to pay on top of the basic wedding costs.Photographers tend to get booked up 18months or more in advance so it’s a good idea to book yours as soon as you have set the date and booked the venue.

You do need to feel comfortable with your wedding photographer.  Do you feel at ease with them, initially in their emailed communications or phone calls. Can you be impulsive or well-organised? Outgoing or shy?  Can your photographer see this and work accordingly to bring out the best in you and your husband to be?

Some photographers are now prepared to release your photo files to you on a DVD/CD (usually at a cost). They may say this is available only after all orders have been placed or that this is copyright protected and for your reference only. You will need to discuss this with your choosen photographer.

Find out what is included in your Photo Package and get their agreement down in writing. Keep this in your wedding file along with all your other information wedding information, as your suppliers are all human and mistakes can happen. Ring your photographer a week or so before the wedding to check final details.

Some photographers double-book themselves, and unless they have more than one photographer on their books, its worth asking who is actually covering your wedding as its nice to get a chance to at least speak to them to get a chance to bond with them first

Choose a photographer whose work you like, who has plenty of wedding photograph albums to show you, either online on their website, and who you feel you get on well with. Good cameras alone do not create photos: it is the person behind the lens coupled with their relationship with you that makes the perfect style.

Farm Weddings
We don’t mean standing in a field with lots of sheep and cows!  But farms can be an affordable place to get married with a lot of charm. some of them allow your guests to interact with the animals, you might find a farm that has a barn that you could tranform in to ther perect eveing reception or you could have a marquee set up for the sit doen meal and change it around for your evening guests.

The new color for 2009 is gray. You may think of gray as too dull to be a color for weddings,it can serve as a sophisticated contrast to brighter colors. It’s great paired with pink or yellow, but perhaps the hottest combination this year will be silver and purple?

Write a special note to the close people involved in your wedding such as the bridesmaids and ushers explaining why they are sp special, and put them in an envelope and leave them at their place setting at the wedding breakfast. It will be something they keep forever!

Recession Proof Wedding Tips

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Due to the current economic slow down, many bride and grooms are opting for either a longer engagement to get their finances in order or just to save for their perfect day or to marry on a budget or even both! this seems to be a trend at the moment so here are a few tips to help have the day you want on the budget you have!

Opting for a wedding at home (if you have the means) can save thousands as well as giving you a more personal day

Make your own invitations and favours

Give the bridesmaids a description and colour of dress you would like them to wear and let them choose their own on a budget

If on a tight budget, get a family member to do a BBQ for the evening food, everyone has a relatiave who is a wiz on the BBQ!

Everyone knows someone who is a keen photographer, and with most computors and printers today you can have as many copies as you like at a fraction of the cost so get bugging your friends!!

Limit your numbers, we all know its nice to see that long lost friend or relative at weddings but most people will understand that money is tight, an evening invite may have to suffice at the moment.

Tips for the Groom

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

This may seem obvious, but remember your socks, far to many grooms get married without socks and it can sometimes be seen in the photographs.

Your button hole is traditionally worn on the left- which ever side you prefer, ensure that you and your ushers all wear their button holes on the same side.

If you usually have you head shaven don’t do it on the day of your wedding or you will look bald or shiny in the photographs. Have your head shaved at least one week before the wedding to allow time for some to grow back.

Tips for the bride

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

When you are having your hair styled on your wedding day, wear a shirt. Many brides wear t-shirts, and then they have trouble getting it over their new hairdo. If you wear a shirtit can be unbuttoned and will not damage your hairdo.

If your dress  has laces or buttons, ask a friend to come and help you dress. normally a bridesmaid or family member will be there to help the bride to get ready, but it is likely that they may also have false nails on for the occasion. If you have a friend present who isn’t in the bridal party they will be able to help the bride get dressed.

If you have a dress that goes over your head, get a pillow case to putover your head first. This way your dress will slide on more easily without damaging hair, or getting make-up on your dress.

Dress the bride first. Lots of people dress the bride last so everyone is ready to help, but if plans start to run behindit will be the bride who is in a rushto get dressed. If you dress the bride firstshe can get ready at her own pace, feel relaxed and have time to make any adjustmentsto her dress. It is not the brides job to dress bridesmaid or children- make sure you have plently of helpers to do this so that she can enjoy her wedding day.

Recession

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

As we all know that we are all trying to save money where ever we can, and people who are planning weddings it is that little bit harder. Just remember when you are booking suppliers for your wedding, try not to leave a large deposit as we all know that many companies are going in to liquidation and you don’t want to lose your deposits.

We strongly advise you to take out wedding insurance to cover you for any lost that maybe caused (check with your insurance provider that you will be covered).
